Music Video ~ Written Reflection

    The song I chose to do the music video on is called "It Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" by Tame Impala. Before I left school to go on a family vacation I found the song two days before and thought that the shots from Cuba would look good with the mood of the song, When I was there I did not have a story board made, this resulted in me taking random shots that I thought looked interesting on their own. But i did plan on creating a time lapse of the sunrise and sunset, I did a bit of research on time lapse prior leaving because I knew there wouldn't be any WiFi. 

When i got back I sorted out the potential clips that I could use for the video and started to create a story board. I had a really great idea that at the beginning of the song I show clips for .5 of a second and change it four times, as it went with the beat. I personally love the first 15 seconds of the video, everything flows together so smoothly. Now when i was in Cuba I found it to be hard to film people because i would need to explain everything and instead i focused creating a more visually appealing video that focused more on timing with the music. 

Timing is a huge part of what i think makes my music video intriguing to watch, I even managed to get 3 amazing shots of animals moving with the song. The first appearance is when the song says "every part of me says go ahead" and the dog walks away which fits perfectly. Then it was when the bird said "I hear it inside my head all day" it moved its head. After at 1:07 and 1:11 my dad turned around with the beat. So basically a lot of the shots were just meant to be part of the video. My way of creating unity was to use only the shots from Cuba that show mostly nature and animals. 

The video did have a couple symbolic shots including the time lapse of the shells,it represented how in the the lyrics it says "every part of me says go ahead" and at the beginning the shells form the shape of a heart and as the clip keeps going it loses it shape and leaves the screen. Another one was at 1:40-1:50 when it says " it feels like we only go backwards" the stop light turned green to indicate to go forward but as it says "only go backwards" the light turns red again showing that nothing really happend.

I had technical difficulty's when filming during the car ride because the road was very bumpy causing my shots to be very shaky. This was my first time ever using Premiere Pro and at first I had no idea how to do anything until i started asking my classmates how to do this and that. Which helped me out a lot when editing.
